One system has been installed as a pilot for a twelve month period but volumes will increase dramatically in December with both applications coming on-line in earnest.

SO Series Expansion

A third SO Series Scanner has been installed with a major Voucher Redemption operation based in the East Midlands. The system will integrate with the existing 'CogniScan' software platform and all current applications will be able to use the new scanner. The new system will also enable the User to reduce hours of operation and cope better with peak processing volumes which are currently in excess of 600,000 documents per day.

System Relocation

Cognitronics has been contracted to relocate the cheque processing facility for a major Government Department from the centre of Dublin to a more rural location outside the city. The project involves the installation of a duplicate T4000 Document Reader in the 'Live' centre in Dublin prior to the 'Live' system been removed, relocated and then installed in the new environment. The duplicate system will take over 'Live' operation for a six week transition period and will be removed once the new environment is fully operational. In parallel, an SCN 6005 will be installed in another location in Dublin. This will provide a Disaster Recovery facility providing contingency to the 'live' environment in the event of a disaster occurring.

First Step into Local Authorities

Cognitronics have now installed a Cheque and Remittance processing solution into one of the largest Local Authorities in the UK.

The system is located in the Cashiers Office of a Midlands based Local Authority and it is hoped that this will be the first of many installations of this type into Local Government environments.

Cognitronics are in discussions with a number of other Local Authorities throughout the UK to aid with the Council Tax, Business Rates and Sundry Debtor's payments.

Particular interest has been shown in the 'Archive Retrieval' module of our CogniScan Software package which is a must for 'customer payment queries', where all captured data and images, particularly those of cheques, can be retrieved to assist and quickly resolve any queries. This in turn eliminates the costly manual and time consuming task normally associated with non automated practices.

Cognitronics Continues to Enhance Reputation

In the late summer of 2005 a pharmaceutical company located in the Home Counties made contact with Cognitronics to review their manual payments process. This was subsequently completed, an order was placed with Cognitronics and during February, a cheque and remittance processing solution was installed, commissioned and is now processing live work.

A new feature with this system is that it is able to use information from the Customers SAP accounts package. An electronic list of outstanding invoices is loaded into the Cognitronics system and after the SCN6005 transport has read details from all payment documents scanned, the system automatically allocates amounts to these invoices.

Under control of the Operator, whole accounts can be reconciled by single action hence dramatically reducing Operator keystrokes. The paid records are then transmitted back to the SAP system to update Customer records.

From a Users perspective, the transition from a manual system to the Cognitronics solution has been very straightforward. The system is compact and easy to operate, and, as one Operator commented: "the automation of our payments process has made the job more interesting".

The final words come from the Senior Manager who headed the project on behalf of the Customer who stated: "we are extremely pleased with the installation".
